I could
This piece is my first “good” adult work that I ever performed. It depicts my approach to a man I was seeing when I was 19, who had everything he wanted and then some in a woman, and yet couldn’t appreciate it until it was too late. This poem is the response to a guy who says dumb shit like, “I don’t want a gf…but if I did, it would be you”. It’s my opinion that those hoops we jump through for men are often lined with sandpaper, thorns and flames.
I could,
Sitt back and blow trees with you,
Share my sandwich,
Chips and Koolaid too,
Cause that’s how girlfriends do.
Make sure your food’s ready,
Keep the pussy steady,
Already
,
If you let me.
Massage, Scratch and lotion your back,
Keep your financial situations on track,
And communication levels intact,
Fuck that bitch wit’ a rubber, long as you Bring your ass back.
Cause I don’t come with the drama,
Gives a damn bout a baby mama,
And when your check comes in,
Could care less bout zeros and commas.
In sickness and health,
Poverty or wealth,
Whatever cards we get dealt,
Know that your struggle is felt…
Just don’t
Start too many fights,
Or leave me alone too many nights,
And I think we’ll be alright…
But,
Ain’t nobody tryin’ to chase or cuff you,
On the cool, just sayin’ what I COULD do.
By all means my nigga just do you.
